What’s the reason?
I’m Katelaine McGee, a Dallas-based interior designer and the founder of Reason for the Loom. I have always believed that a beautiful home should reflect the people who live there while still supporting the realities of everyday life. As a designer, I’m drawn to color, pattern and pieces with character—and I often begin a room from the ground up with the rug.
I founded Reason for the Loom in 2024 after struggling to find colorful, thoughtfully designed rugs that felt distinctive, beautifully made and practical for real homes. I wanted to create a collection that could bring warmth and personality to a room while standing up to family life. Today, our hand-knotted wool rugs combine vintage-inspired motifs with fresh color palettes designed to feel collected rather than conventional.
Each rug is made by established artisans using time-honored hand-knotting techniques. Our made-to-order rugs can be customized by size and color, allowing every design to be tailored to the needs of your home. Whether you are searching for a colorful Oushak rug, a custom-size rug or an entirely new color palette, our goal is to help you find a piece that feels personal to your space.
The name Reason for the Loom is rooted in the people and purpose behind the business. My family is my greatest reason for creating, and they continually remind me that the most meaningful homes are not simply beautiful—they are places where life is lived, memories are made and the people we love feel completely at home.
